Anyone purchased a handgun using their CCW yet? HB 234

I've done it several times. As Ohiobellboy said, you still fill out the form, they just don't have to do a background check. They put your ccw info on the form instead of the approval code they would usually get from the background check. Since I've never had a delay, it really only saves a...

What else do you carry besides a firearm?

I carry a pocket knife and a tactical pen along with my carry gun everywhere I go. The knife and pen obviously get used as tools nearly 100% of the time, but they can be used for weapons if the need arises.

[Article] - Choose the Right Size Handgun To Concealed Carry

I would add to the issue of holster, that a quality belt is necessary. It doesnt matter how good your holster is if your belt lets it sag off your body and doesn't comfortably distribute the weight of the gun. Most people who complain about an uncomfortable holster would actually be better...

    Best carry pistol for females

A 25 yard shot for concealed carry is essentially irrelevant. I would be hesitant to take that shot with a battle rifle in a self defense scenario.  I'm with you on thesingle stack Glock being a great carry gun. I carry my G43 quit a bit. Obviously I can't speak for females and my wife can't...

List of sheriffs office to take CCW application too?

You can apply for a ccw license in the county in which you live or an adjacent county. So any county that has a border with Putnam county. So that would be Paulding, Defiance, Henry, Hancock, Allen, or Van Wert.

    Best carry pistol for females

My wife has a Ladysmith S&W Model 60-14. It's beautiful, ergonomically comfortable for small hands, has a beefed up .357 frame/cylinder, but can shoot .38 special +p loads quite comfortably. She loves it. She has a Glock 26 and Glock 43 and likes them both, but she really loves her revolver.

SB 199 - Concealed Carry Modifications Goes In To Effect Soon

You are correct. You can open carry in Ohio per our constitution.  But you are also right that there are specific ways to carry a gun in a motor vehicle. Once you get your CCW license you will be able to keep your gun loaded in your car, but until then, there is really no such thing as open...

    A new toy

Just thought I'd share a couple new toys I picked up for my Colt collection: This is a 1903 Colt SAA Bisley Model that was in bad shape and badly refinished that I had the legend Jim Martin restore. The action is now better than the day it left Colt: This is a 1969 Colt Cobra...

SB 199 - Concealed Carry Modifications Goes In To Effect Soon

In Ohio, the sign has the "force of law" in the sense that if a property owner has a sign posted in a conspicuous place, violating that sign is criminal trespass. It's not quite as simple as "whether you see it or not" because our criminal trespass statute (R.C. 2911.21(A)(5)) requires a person...

SB 199 - Concealed Carry Modifications Goes In To Effect Soon

Yep. Effective day is today. The parking lot protections are very nice. Even though I wasn't thrilled with the way they addressed some issues in the bill, overall I'm very happy with it.

    Hudson Mfg. H9

It's not the trigger safety I care about, it's the fact that a 1911 has virtually no travel. And Hudson advertises a 0.115 travel distance. That isn't enough for me in a carry gun.

    Hudson Mfg. H9

Looks very interesting. I haven't seen one and I admittedly know very little about it other than a couple articles/reviews. Obviously a bore axis that close to the hand is a huge benefit for a combat pistol. My one hangup (without handling one so this is just from first blush) is the idea of a...

At Home Shooting Range: Legal considerations

If you are just talking about a personal shooting range at your home, 1533.84 et al is not really intended to address that type of range. Yes, it clearly speaks of both public and private ranges, but the main thrust of the law deals with an actual range operated for use as a regular shooting...

    Trap sporting clays

I have many memories of Mad River Sportsman's Club. I used to shoot there and pull traps there when I was a teenager. In 1996, when the US Olympic team was touring, I pulled trap for the Ohio Cup that was there and got all the US team to sign a box of shells. I still have it.

    Trap sporting clays

How far do you want to drive? Clark County has a nice sportsman's club just off route 41 on the west side of Springfield that's only about 20 minutes from Fairborn. I was a member there many years ago and they have trap, skeet, and sporting clays there. I no longer live in the area, so someone...

    Glock 19 gen 4 or a smith and Wesson m&p 9

I'll take Glock's stock trigger over X D out of the box any day. For me, Glock has about 1/2" of takeup, which I am so used to I take it up without thinking about it, then breaks crisp with no overtravel. The XDs just seem "mushy" in comparison.

    Good optic for a PS90

I love the "idea" of the ps90, but I'll never understand why someone would built a CQB gun with 4 inches of sight offset above the barrel. The angle of sight line is so steep you're basically only accurate at a single distance.

    SIgn it

The college campus provision basically left the exact language we had before where you can't carry on a college campus unless it is locked in a motor vehicle or in the process of being locked in a motor vehicle, and all they did was add on to the end of that section the phrase -or if the college...

    SIgn it

I was also disappointed in the college campus language as well as the day care center language. I can elaborate on why later if you like. But I am thrilled with 2 provisions. First is the employee protection. My wife can't carry to and from work because her employer won't even allow guns in...

    Ohio CCW Laws Quick References

You are required to give the officer your gun during the traffic stop if they ask. Failure to do so would be a crime. There is a procedure in the law for you to get the gun back and requirements for how they must care for it while they have it. In Ohio, your 4th amendment analysis wouldn't apply...
