Ok, for us Non-jeep people, can y'all talk in terms we might understand, perhaps by using names and years like normal people do? (Ex.: 1993 Toyota 4Runner SR5 4wd). This stuff is written on the outside of the vehicle, except for the year. If I called it a Gen2 3VZE you’d say “Huh??”

I don’t know what a TJ or WR or XP or any of those others are, so if I see a Jeep for sale, I won’t know if it’s what you’re looking for.

Try taking a water hose and spraying the fan blades to make them turn to get it started?
I had an HVAC guy show me that once as a way to diagnose a bad capacitor

Fan runs. Compressor isn't running but I can hear it trying to start. No hot air discharge, no condensate from the drain, and both suction and discharge lines on the lineset are ambient temperature.

97-06. Last generation of only 2 door jeeps and the inline 6 4.0L engine. Pretty much last "real" Wrangler imo before it turned into a soccer mom SUV.

The cap starts the fan and the compressor btw, and the fan requires less power to start...

So...we meet again. It's been awhile, huh old friend?

Fan runs, compressor won't start. I can hear it, it WANTS to start but it won't. Cap looks good still but I can't swap it out to try it since the supply shops are closed today anyway.

Gonna be a new cap/hard-start cap, or a new unit. I'll know in a couple hours when my old high school shop teacher gets here. He is licensed HVAC, be good to catch up with him anyway. Good fella, ain't seen him in probably 13 or 14 years when I was working in HVAC.

Not that I've sold a bunch of houses but I noticed all the little gremlins pop up right when you're trying to. Funny how that is.

One of ours quit last week. Ended up being the capacitor. It was the weekend and I could not find one to save my life. Ended up doing the Amazon thing and had it Monday. Unit just buzzed and fan would not start.

These lightning storms are hell on a cap. Crazy how fast Amazon can get something to your door, ain't it? What kind of strings did they pull with USPS?

OH, ok, so you’re looking for a 2dr Jeep Wrangler 4.0L ‘97-‘06

That’s something I can understand.
Well, only sorta. I know a kid (in my son’s band) with same engine in his ‘98 Cherokee, and he’s having nothing but problems with it. And this is his second one. The ‘02 blew a head gasket, and now he robs it for parts to keep the ‘98 running.
Last weekend it broke down at my house. He thinks it was his alternator, or maybe the distributor. He finally found a guy who knows his shit and is willing to help him with it, and that dude came and picked it up on his trailer. It’s still not running.

He got one that wasn't properly maintained and probably dogged out then. The 4.0L inline 6 is one of the most reliable and proven motors ever put in a Jeep. Your sample size of one is not indicative of the reliability of the 4.0L. There's a reason the TJ's demand a premium still to this day. As @Jstegman1 is finding out, it's hard to find a nice 4.0L TJ for under $10k. They hold their value better than any other mass produced vehicle.

Bad day to lose a/c. Get a hotel room.

My main floor unit went out last week. We let the upstairs unit run and used a fan to help circulate the air in the house.

$372, one capacitor and 2lbs freon later we were cool as cucumbers again...
