Then Either will work for you but I still would keep a 30 cal rifle handy be it 308 or 30-06 to kill Cars if needed.
That's my beef with 5.56 . The energy delta doesnt bother me too much, because 5.56 has enough for soft tissue....but I dont want to be hugely concerned with barriers or even dense foliage. I think the 70+ grain ammo helps, but to what degree I dont know enough

556 and 300 blk is my go to.

5.56 and x39 is fun at the range and all. But when you open up with a .30 (in my case 54R) it moves a LOT more earth with the impact!

Black tip :06 like @Balthaz said for barrier penetration.

Appreciate y'alls real world experience.

And would you look at @Jake - he done went to art school or something with his mad photography skillz.

Deflection is my worrie as well and is why i keep enough 308 handy for that very issue.
I use a 10 inch Barrel Pistol AR for home defense and am not worried about deflection at ranges up to 20 yards but after 100 then it is a worry.
Now in my experience I have penetrated very light armor with almost no deflection with 556 and still am here to talk about it.
Again I will never be without a 308 Platform as part of home defense but that is just me.

Rocks
What ya got to trade ?
Shoot nothing at the moment! I just sold off a lot of my extra stuff for this rifle.

Honestly would prefer a bolt action over an AR10, just because I don’t need to get stupid crazy with mags. And a 308 isn’t my first choice. Just need like 3 mags, and 250 rounds in a 4 shot rifle and I’ll be happy.

Seems to be scientifically proven that the first person get the FIBS factor, is out of the gun fight.
FUCK
IVE
BEEN
SHOT

When I took the x39 to my left thigh I didn't realize I had been shot. It just felt hot...intensely so, and I was confused as to why my leg wasn't working any more.

When I caught the .25 to the hip, I knew I had been shot. And it still didn't hurt. Just intense heat and anger.

I'll keep at least one for home defense. I wont lie, I'm taking a more minimalist approach to life. I dont like the diversity right now. I pretty much want to standardize, practice, and stack deep. I just cant even fathom using a 308 in the house. 5.56 out of a 20" is plenty good...which gets me down the rabbit hole of if it's good for HD then really why isnt it good for most tasks...like aggressive dino nuggies and toilet paper bartering

Stay outta my holes!
