    Where's Tarheel ?!

I sent Hank an email a couple of hours ago. No answer yet. If I don't hear from him in a day or two, I'll call.

    Walther PPK/S-1 at LGS

I'm really glad things came together for you. The web works sometimes..... ;) By the way - isn't the model of that pistol shown on the pistol as PPK/S? My 1973 version has the slash in the model number and is a PPK/S. My guess is that yours is a "PPK/S-1", made in the US by Smith &...

The most effective hardware for home defense

One of these days I need to convince my wife that a Remington 870 Express Tactical 12ga. would be the perfect "hunting" shotgun. ;) I have a very old Browning Auto-5 in 20 gauge, but it's WAY too long for using in the house.

The most effective hardware for home defense

I keep a 9mm handgun and a very bright flashlight at the ready at night. For other times, I have a variety of choices.

    Walther PPK and PPK/S recall

I just found out that there's a critically important recall on certain Walther PPK and PPK/S pistols made by S&W between 2002 and 2009. For more information click on this link to the notice. The recall was issued on Feb 20, 2009. If you have a pistol that is listed, I suggest calling the...

How often to clean striker fired pistols?

Isn't it amazing how far from the theme of the thread this one got?

9mm Versacarry and Ruger SR9c (and SR9) alert

I'm going to start checking my holsters (especially the ones that I have made) to make sure that this sort of thing isn't a problem. I don't have an SR9 or SR9c. Are the magazine release buttons on these pistols significantly different in any way from those on other pistols?

    AK co-witness

I use an EOTech EXPS2-0 on my AR-15. I know I have an astigmatism in my right (dominant) eye and that does degrade the quality of the dot when I'm using the EOTech sight. The astigmatism does not cause me problems in everyday situations, so I seldom wear the glasses that corrects for the...

    Adding Utah (non-resident) permit

I plan on attending a class for the Utah non-resident permit with a friend on the 13th. The instructor said he'd give me what's needed for a Florida non-resident permit as well.

    Walther PPK/S-1 at LGS

I bought my Walther PPK/S (made in Germany and imported by Interarms) in July of 1973 and paid $149.00 for it. The three 50-round boxes of Federal .380 ammo I bought with the pistol cost $5.44 each. I just looked up the inflation rate from '73 to now, and the equivalent price for the pistol...

    Adding Utah (non-resident) permit

The labeling of that web page is a bit misleading in my opinion. Though it appears to be a great resource, I think it would be best to look at each state's laws to determine where one's permit is accepted AND what the rules are in the other states. Rules seem to be quite different in...

Convert your 6 round Ruger LCP .380 caliber magazine into a 7 round

I've been watching the similar thread in the "other" forum and a couple of reports have surfaced about failures of the Magguts package. Apparently, the follower and spring can become improperly oriented causing jams. For sure, I won't be "upgrading" my LCP magazines.

    Gun bluing

For the most recent job, I used Birchwood Casey's Super Blue (liquid).

    Gun bluing

Cold bluing can be effective, but correct preparation is ultra-critical and difficult to do right. I've done almost-acceptable jobs on a couple of old .22 rifle barrels, but hot bluing (done well) produces much better results than I was able to do with over-the-counter products.

    CC At Bass Pro

I'm glad that Cabela's allows legal concealed carry in their store here in southeastern Wisconsin. They make you check any firearms that will be exposed such as those you're selling to the store or having work done on, but concealed carry is just that in the store.

Dave, I went back to the post where I listed my +P load and added a couple of things to make it more obvious that it's not a beginner's load. Thanks for the prompting.

    1911 bullet mold

For .45 ACP target bullets, I use a four-cavity Hensley & Gibbs #68S (the S is for Special, I believe) mold, S/N 2077, that was custom made for me to make 230 grain semi-wadcutter bullets using wheel weight material. The standard H&G #68 mold at the time produced nominal 200 grain bullets but...
