OK, so a few days ago I was in a pawn shop and they had an AKM - it was a MAADI - and I looked it over. They wanted $800 or so for it, and I thought it felt like a piece of shit. It was tinny, felt light and rattled, paint looked like crap (it was mostly there, but just like a toy or something cheap). The stock didn't fit well, I was generally unimpressed.
And THIS is a 'good' AKM???

Yep. Paint is shitty on all of them. Before Saigas came it, Maadi was the closest thing to a Soviet AKM.
Steyr Maadi is the best, pre ban, 2000 rifles imported; then, post ban, PARS, then Intrac, then Century asssembled MISR.

Who the hell is Kimmer

Kimmer is fucking hilarious. Former Vietnam Marine, does lots of local news, jokes, and his crew he works with includes a guy who does tons of impressions, and a guy named Pete who does sports - and they're all hilarious.
I'd listen to Kimmer and his laugh was just infectious. Good to know he hasn't quit and retired.

The last day 106.7 was on the air I just about cried. It was like a eulogy with all the people calling in. Kimmer ended his show the same way he always had, with CCR's "Up Around the Bend", while yelling Marine march orders. It was epic. And when they pulled the plug it was still going. I felt like a good friend had just died.
Now I gotta find his podcast and sign up immediately. I'd happily pay $30/month to listen to that dude.

That's tough. Well, not really. For the price you can get a well build FAL vs a SCAR 17 I'd say FAL. But, if SCAR 17s were $2500ish when I first had one years ago and it was only ONE, I'd go SCAR.
Now the wildcard is the Galil 308. For a good FAL you'll pay 1600ish, the galil 308 is about 1700. The galil is probably 'better', but I really like my 18" para FAL.
The ideal rifle would be a SCAR with the aluminum lower that took SR25 mags and an 18" barrel for 2500....but that doesnt exist for less than 3200 which is too much.

WhatI'm getting at is if you want a .308 and want it to have good ergonomics, take SR-25 mags, and be accurate, why not just do an LR-308???
