I took Gunsmithing at Piedmont community college in Roxboro NC my Senior year of High school. Joined the Corps right after HS graduation and by the time I got back I wouldn't have benefited from taking the second year of Gunsmithing.

I was excited about the Montgomery program. It was legit I got to see all the machine shops and stuff while I was doing the core classes. It was super common to see people walking into and out of the school with rifles and shotguns and pistols. Totally normal shit. There were a lot of vets too, had a batt boy double amputee there who I made friends with but he was already in the program and I had to take bullshit like Literature and REAL small business courses. I couldn’t wait 3 years to do it I woulda digressed to my neighbors way of life before I ever got in lol.

You obviously ain't familiar with the uneducated population of the rural south. Republican is still a dirty word in some hollers. Some people still mad about the way the south was ravaged during reconstruction and how it never financially recovered, which is why there is not only an income gap but an education gap between states North and South of the Mason Dixon.

I ain't gonna get into the whole North Vs South and the causes of the Civil war, but up until world war one, the South was riddled with poverty and lack of public schools, while the North flourished economically and could provide "book learnin" to its voter base.
