M193 and m855 lose effectivness at 50 yards when fired from 10" barrels. They do not fragment.

Yes, 7.62x39 is less affected by barrel length. Look up ballistic by the inch.
Also, X39 bullets and 5.56 bullets rely on different ways of being affective. 5.56 relies on fragmentation, which means speed has to stay above 2500 fps, IIRC. X39 tumbles, due to air cavity in the nose. Tumbling is less sensitive to velocity.
