I have a 24'' bolt gun listed, I find that the velocity gains decrease the wind effects at the short ranges that I shoot-400 yards over a 16''. If it were an ar there is no way that I would go over 20. My buddy has an 18 or 20 inch MVP, and I can tell no difference from the 24. we shoot 62 and 55's.

I don't like side charging handles because you can't use a brass catcher to save your carefully match prepped brass.

Cfe 223 is my favorite 8x57 powder with 170's. It smells a little funny, but I have gotten great results. You will love the way it meters. My go to load is 25.0 Imr 4064 under 55's. It is a warmer load, a it would pay to work up from a starting load.

I prefer RCBS products. I have other brands that I have bought on sale-used, but RCBS has always worked best for me.

Have you ever tried IMR 3031 in .223? I found a few lbs cheap last summer.

I load 30-06 on my Hornady lock and load if I need a couple hundreds rounds. The brass comes off to be trimmed which messes up my flow. I can't justify the cost of a press mounted power trimmer.

Still looking for a sidelock to complete the project, USA or quality Italian.

I just can't bring myself to stock another caliber projectile, but if the steel case ammo works well it would be nice to get that performance out of the an-15 for a reasonable price.
