Once he's big enough to learn he's going to be taught safety from the very beginning. This is more to keep little baby hands from figuring things out. I like @NWS way, he shouldn't be able to chamber a round and flip the safety off. Those plus keeping it out of reach should be enough.

I did make sure that was on option. I just wanted to get it as short as possible so it worth the extra few bucks for it and I don't see a can in my future so it's not a problem.

It will probably see that many rounds over its life. This will be my only AR probably so it will see a bunch of rounds over the years.

I agree. I was thinking more of the hypothetical absolute worst case scenario. Even without the baby getting away from the threat is the number 1 priority.

I handled one some guy had at a range. It was a precision build that was neat. He had it so he could turn the gas off to shoot suppressed. Made it into a pretty quiet mag fed straight pull bolt gun.

I know I am. Been working overtime shifts to buy the two guns that have the most potential to be banned or at least become scarce for a while. The rest of the guns on my list have a much lower chance of being banned any time soon. Also been buying a pmag and ammo to fill it with each paycheck.
