Need Suggestions for a Good Single Point Sling

Another convert! I really like the VCAS as well. The VTAC is a good sling, but a bit more complicated in execution and the loose bits that hang from it tend to get in the way.

    SHTF: 5.56 or bust?

I haven't read the entire thread, but I don't think they're tracking the various parts that closely. The only thing he stated emphatically was that most AK receivers break between 80-100k rounds. I think the exception was a few milled receivers?

    SHTF: 5.56 or bust?

And to be fair, here's the AR thread. Lots of good info in both. http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_3_118/677135_High_round_count_AR_M4_s__over_100_000_rounds__and_how_they_have_handled_on_our_range.html

    SHTF: 5.56 or bust?

Just found the original AK thread on AR15.COM. There's a bit more information there. They discuss lots of different parts breakage. It's really not that different than the AR's except for the receiver failures. Bolts, pistons carriers and even barrels have cracked or broken...

    SHTF: 5.56 or bust?

I guess my take away is twofold. First, the AR is much more reliable than people give it credit for and it's not the jammomatic that some people want to beleive it is. And second, the AK is a well proven, durable gun, but it's not the indestructible machine that people think it is either. If...

    SHTF: 5.56 or bust?

Here's the write up they did on the AKs for reference. A couple of them are still running the original barrels after 2.5 years. Very impressive. Others have needed replacing. It looks like they're replacing bolts not due to breakage, but due to headspace. Lots of broken receivers, which they are...

    SHTF: 5.56 or bust?

Yes, it's the guy from BFV. He submitted a separate article a few months ago that specifically addressed the AKs they run. I think the perceived bias is probably a result of the fact that the AR's run better and are more durable than many people give them credit for. Aside from the gas tube...

    SHTF: 5.56 or bust?

Just saw article from TFB. Some very interesting findings on parts longevity, barrel life, lubricants and the AR vs AK question. http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2015/09/08/ar-endurance-findings-at-a-rental-range/

    SHTF: 5.56 or bust?

Yeah, I'm an admitted Knights Armament fan. But not blindly so. There are several things that they do that I don't like. But if they sold E3 barrels and bolts, I wouldn't use anything else. And you're right about the Tula ammo. But it was an ammunition test after all. The gun running brass...

    SHTF: 5.56 or bust?

Thought about this over the weekend. The sr15 endurance test is highly impressive, but it may not be a fair comparison. Most AR's would have likely had a bolt failure with that round count and firing schedule. The SR15 uses a slightly modified bolt that's warrantied to 20k rounds minimum. Most...

    SHTF: 5.56 or bust?

Good lubricant does make a difference. A lot of guys still use clp or rem oil. Those tend to burn off quickly or evaporate over time though. Newer stuff like MPro7, Slip 2000 ELW, Fireclean, weaponshield, etc does actually help from a reliability standpoint.

That made me smile. And I needed it, because this morning has been a shit show.

    NIB BCG vs Phosphate BCG

Do it. You can be the bling king of the SET! Right up there with middle eastern dictators and South American drug lords!

    NIB BCG vs Phosphate BCG

I've played with a pvd / dlc coated carrier before. They're very nice, but basically the same as nitride aside from the colors. They're very nice, but damn expensive.

    NIB BCG vs Phosphate BCG

Fireclean, weaponshield, slip ELW, MPro7, they all work pretty darn well. Been using Fireclean primarily for about a year now. Really works well with my suppressed guns.

    SHTF: 5.56 or bust?

I'd be surprised if a Colt wouldn't do the same. Heck, the Bushmasters used in the Lucky gunner 10k round tests fared pretty darn well.

    SHTF: 5.56 or bust?

Maybe myth is too harsh. Didn't mean to sound that way. But modern thinking has shown that all they need is lubrication. (assuming that the gun is of decent quality) This was really borne out of the last 20 years of fighting in the desert. I guess all I'm saying is that choosing an AK based on...
