In short, buy a Winchester 94 is you're a sexy man that has an above average sized cock and likes the attractive contours of a well proportioned lever action. Buy a Marilin 336 if you basically want a bolt action, but feel drawn to a lever action with a scope for some reason...and your penis is kind of malformed.

I have a Marlin that my dad bought used in the 60s. He traded it for a 30-06 in the 70's. Tracked the guy down and bought it back in the 80s and gave it to me for Christmas the year I turned 10. This rifle has taken more deer than the majority of hunters will ever see. The carbine length makes it easier to carry through dense woods and get it up the tree. Granted the effective killing range isn't great, but let's face it, how many in our area (Piedmont region) are shooting out much past 100yds? Unless you are on a powerline, chances are you are in thick woods where the 30-30 excels. I have hunted w/ other calibers (.308 and 30-06), but the trusted old reliable Marlin has always been my go to hunting gun. Just my .02 cents.
I agree - a scope on a lever action is unnecessary. Skinner Sights peep sight provides the best option of function while preserving the compactness and lines of the guns design. The Winchester action is loose and sloppy, and I don't like how the action spills its guts. Often enough the standard ejection puts a hot case down the back of of shirt or on your head, but the AE model fixes that issue.
My first rifle was a Marlin 336 in 30-30 ,got when I was 14... It was stolen when I was away at school....fast forward 35 years I found a near mint condition 336 in 30-30 ( same model year) .bought it upgraded the trigger and lever added a top trail and night sights
