If I wern't already set up in 30-30, I would get a revolver caliber. Less breaks for reloading and cheap to choot.

I prefer the 94 to the 336 though. Slimmer fore end, slicker action, and no temptation to fuck it up with optics.
Love my model 94. Bought it in 1994. Gold trigger edition. One of three guns that are priceless to me. It was my first deer rifle.

No, you can't touch it...

I've had several hunting rifles over the years, and the marlin was my favorite. I shot a deer at 230 yards with one. Dropped it in it's tracks.

Yep. The gold standard for lever actions. Super pointable, slender and a slick as snot action. It's what Marlin tried for and failed.

Laufen does bring up a valid point, the Winny is much more thin and sleek, but I hunt with a 7400, so one more bulky stock won't hurt.
It's everything a levergun should be. Quick, and pointable.

It's aesthetics to me. I personally favor the look of the 336. My Winchester was smooth as shit, but I couldn't mount a scope on it without going the side-mount route, and that's ehhh to me

Oh jeezuz, a scope on a Winchester? That's not allowed until you're 65+ and have taken 20 or more deer with it. It ruins the lines, the quickness, and the sexiness.

Thus, the Marlin with it's sexy side eject capability, rigid flat-top receiver, and pistol grip. I'm terrible with leaf sights...I can't see shit with them. I know you can install an aperture, but fuck you...I'm getting the Marlin.

You owe it to the game comrade. ;)

fwiw, they're fine rifles. Had a .223 and it shot great. I'd like a repeater though.
.
I'll gladly take a Cooper if your uppity ass is buying it. I own 2 other deer rifles, it's not like it will be my only deer rifle.
