Not necessarily. Gotta make sure the tang is gonna fit the groove on the top of the new wood stock. You'll chip the stock if you don't watch this part.

Also if the insert is oversize for your rifle, you'll have to do a lot of filing/sanding to get that part fitted as well.

Still doesn’t seem like a big deal. Can either file the steel or work the wood (phrasing!) carefully to enlarge the slot, right?
