Technically for that application no, however as far as lamp cord is concerned when you split them and are holding both leads one will have a ribbed texture around it and the other smooth. The ribbed one is your neutral.Question for the electricdaddies on here....
I am hanging a chandelier as a surprise for my girlfriend. Does it matter which wire connects to the hot lead? I am thinking no, but other than rigging up a fire control switch box for a Katyusha array, I have very little experience with electricity.

You want the black wire to be going to the little knob in the bottom of the socket, And not the metal threads around the sides.Technically for that application no, however as far as lamp cord is concerned when you split them and are holding both leads one will have a ribbed texture around it and the other smooth. It will work either way, but one way is safer than the other when it comes to changing out the bulbsI have no idea what you are talking about? I just hooked wire to wire using wire nuts, and ran the exposed copper ground to the lamp itself. Did I do it wrong?
Here's the lamp..

I had a true monster chasing a doe in front of me , but no good shot was avaliableWell??
Inside the light socket there is a metal ring the bulb threads into and a metal tabs at the bottom. Sometimes you have to ohm out the metal tab at the bottom, but you ideally want the black wire to go to it
Just turn the light off when you change the bulbs.Gotcha.
I am just gonna have to hope I got it right, cause my meter is in the girlfriends car.
Just turn the light off when you change the bulbs.
