I always use a wet washcloth to get a better grip on the bulb when I change them. Am I doing it wrong?

I was taught to test batteries by licking them. 9v batteries are easy to lick. AA not so much. Am I doing it wrong?

I replaced a shattered heat bulb on a buffet line in my restaurant once. Base of the bulb and some of the glass were still in the socket.
I turned the breaker off and wrapped my hand in a washcloth, so I would not get cut. My cook glanced out of the kitchen window, saw that heat lamps were off, went to the breaker panel and turned them on. I woke up on the tile floor.
After Co paid my workman's claim, all restaurants in the chain received a lock out thing for the breaker box and a lock, along with a sternly worded letter.
