They're awesome if you like shooting 6" groups at 25 yards and spending $40 on shitty magazines.
If you consider a Mini 14, make sure it's a later model one. (barrel profile is thicker) - Ruger retooled for the Mini, and the new ones shoot just fine. I have a Leupold Mark AR on mine and make 500 yd hits, no problem.
