Yes
Wasr 10/63s, even regular wasr10s.
And still lots of Beprs out there (easy conversion)

I've never built anything, but I can see the reasoning. You can pick something not currently being produced, and know what you're getting with some of your own hand-picked components. When WASRs were $400 I don't see it, but when a 10/63 is near $800 I could see why someone would just rather build. (and pay someone to build)

Yeah, guess it’s all relevant to accessibility and knowledge.
Maybe I’ve gotten lazy with quite a few trouble free AKs and can’t justify a build.
Regarding cost, the way I value that is including the reliability and ammo cost factors. Then it‘s easy to decide.
I have Glocks, HKs, AKs and others that I’ve put 20-30x their original cost in ammo through them, so initial cost is a joke.
And that’s wholesale ammo cost from years back since I always buy in bulk.

I feel like the hardest part is the barrel and head spacing. That’s why I’ve always been hesitant. And the tooling cost

Yeah. Did two milled receivers... not worth the headache

What's the legality of splicing in/welding an 80% or a 100% receiver and welding in the 3rd pin hole on one of these? Can it be done?

Don't need to unless it's a virgin barrel.

If it's the OG barrel you just pop the barrel pin, press off the rear trunion, rivet the trunion to the receiver, press in the barrel, press the barrel pin back in.

The timing and headspace is already taken care of, and you don't have to worry about the rest of the barrel components

If it's a virgin barrel, add about an hour for populating and drilling.
I can already infer that due to ATF now cutting OG barrels up in the kits we see nowadays you’d almost always have to go with a new barrel

It can be, but the cost associated with doing that would be in the thousands.
