It's not one for an inexperienced builder. The trunions are welded to the receiver and barrel components are welded to the barrel
I don’t understand the point of building aks. Yes I know how and have done it years ago.
But isn’t it easier, cheaper and less time consuming to just buy a known quality setup and simply use it? (I’m not referring to additions, upgrades or furniture swaps)
There are still plenty of good options out there.
Maybe I’m not planning that far enough ahead when building one would be necessary?

I can build a m70 for around $550 right now.

If I was to buy one from a store, I would he looking at $800+

So no ....it's not cheaper. Not by a long shot.

What are the "plenty of good options"? Some of the only AKs being sold now are PSA, new Zastava offerings, and WASRs. Zastava AKs are now near $900.

What about populating a barrel?

Don't need to unless it's a virgin barrel.

If it's the OG barrel you just pop the barrel pin, press off the rear trunion, rivet the trunion to the receiver, press in the barrel, press the barrel pin back in.

The timing and headspace is already taken care of, and you don't have to worry about the rest of the barrel components

If it's a virgin barrel, add about an hour for populating and drilling.
