And 200 to 300 foot per second at the muzzle below the velocity to produce the wounding mechanism that makes 5.56 an effective combat load. If we are talking punching paper, it's moot. But if we are talking self defense, even at close quarters, well...............just saying.
You are more than welcome to hang a vest or plates at 100yards and give it a go anytime you have free time.

I certainly wouldn't want to get shot with it, but it does seem like you're handicapping yourself with such a short barrel

I'll ask you what I ask everyone else. Would you run infront of it? The AKS-74U has a 8.1" barrel as well shooting a similar caliber.

Bof dem bois is deadly in deez skreets. Specially inside the endzones.
And I'll reply the same to you as I do to everyone else. It I had to get in a gunfight with you I would be MORE than happy you brought your 8.5 inch 5.56 and not your 14.5. Although the 5.45 performs much better out of the 16 inch 74 barrel, the 5.45 doesn't suffer the same problems at lower velocities as the 5.56 when barrels start getting chopped. Different bullet, different results.
