So my under folder won't accept a bayonet unless I remove the brake. Is it ok to run it without? Do I need to worry about the detent pin & spring ?

If you are running a comboc slant break or muzzle nut, or one of the American 922r copies the bayonet should fit. But to your question, the detent and spring should be fine. You might mar the barrel threads though, but probably not enough to matter. I would try and figure out which is out of spec, the muzzle nut or the bayonet guard and fix that.
