My general impression was that SA seemed to have better build quality by a slim margin...but Colt had some sort of intangible x factor.

I agree can't go wrong with either one. Something about Colt though, intangible you're right. One thing I've seen on SA moreso than the others, sometimes the fitment of parts and the slide to frame fitment will be off at the back of the gun.

I edc my 1911 and if Rock Island made one that didn't weigh 14 pounds out the box, I'd consider it.
