My general impression was that SA seemed to have better build quality by a slim margin...but Colt had some sort of intangible x factor.

My Colt is the loosest most rattley 1911 I have.
If you're okay with an external extractor, S&W makes a pretty nice 1911
Otherwise I would go Dan Wesson for quality v. price

I'll have to do some reading...but a few years ago when I was deep into 1911s the big stink was that DW was incorporating more MIM parts in their guns. I'm not anti MIM, but for the price point of DWs they shouldn't have it. Just a little more over a DW gets you a Baer

Then drop a little more coin and get the Les Baer and be done with it. I had an older Kimber with some MIM parts and had zero problems after thousands and thousands of rounds and shooting a few matches. I think the whole MIM is awful thing is overblown, but I get that you want what you want.

It's more of a question of is a baer really worth a TRP and a Colt. In my past experiences I dont think it is, but it is damn nice. I guess if I were buying as a duty gun

You know I’ve had the chance for the past month or so we’ve kept one on the shelves, sold a few. My cost isn’t bad at all for employees. I just gotta wait before I dump 500.00 (brace, red dot) on another rim fire lol

Diminishing returns...
But I like that a Baer is all and fitted and has an accuracy guarantee. A Ferrari isn't worth a couple Corvettes, but it's damn nice.

Yeah I recoil a little bit when it comes to dropping serious coin on a rimfire myself
