Cartridge spotlight: handloading and shooting the 30-06 Springfield

I checked around and don't know anyone with a rifle in that caliber. Do you have a ''test subject''?

Cartridge spotlight: handloading and shooting the 30-06 Springfield

Think about it as a way to shoot grandad's old lever gun, and maybe take a deer with the same rifle he did in 1947, or to be able to shoot that old military rifle uncle Ed left you, that the ammunition is $3 each. If you are happy shooting todays's plastic utilitarian weapons, which are much...

Cartridge spotlight: handloading and shooting the 30-06 Springfield

.308 and . 223 are very easy to load for and 2 of my 4 favorite rifle calibers. Lots of components and data. I have a load that replicates Federal Gold Metal Match in .308, but at $8.25 a box when you get ready! Of course you can tweak your load to match the rifle, but this shoots well in...

Cartridge spotlight: handloading and shooting the 30-06 Springfield

Anyone have a cartridge that they would like to tackle? I was thinking about taking on a new project, maybe 35 or larger diameter rifle???

    Should I?

Invite her over for pizza before going out for a drink, and see if she would rather stay in and watch a movie instead of going out to a ''silly bar''. Have a few beers and hard ciders on hand. You crazy kids, what do they teach you these days.

Cartridge spotlight: handloading and shooting the 30-06 Springfield

I think the .35 Remington is in line with that round. Widely used up until the 90's, it would be a good candidate for suppressing.

Cartridge spotlight: handloading and shooting the 30-06 Springfield

I keep thinking about building one and then having a sizing die made using the chamber reamer. The problem is that the bullet would be an oddball size for me to keep on the shelf.

    Raw Oyesters

When I was a kid I saw my older cousin getting them off rocks at low tide, and eating them raw onboard. This seems cool, but tossing one back raw that has been in the fridge for an unknown time not so much. I would like to give steamed a try.

Cartridge spotlight: handloading and shooting the 30-06 Springfield

There has been much discussion of calibers, hunting, and suppression on various forums as of late, as well as will caliber .xxxx do_______. There is one rifle caliber that will cleanly take out a moose, or shoot subsonic gallery loads using the same weight bullets, primers, and cases. All the...

Can't decide if I should keep my 357/38 lever gun

That doesn't have to be; a bolt gun breaks the seal for a second or so, and they seem to be quiet on follow up shots with subsonic .308.

Can't decide if I should keep my 357/38 lever gun

I shot dove with a single shot 20 gauge for several years as a boy. You can shuck em in and out pretty good with a little practice. In fact I still have the shotgun, and even though I have not fired it in 5 years or more. I bet you $20 that I can shoot a box of shells in under 2 minutes. How...

Can't decide if I should keep my 357/38 lever gun

Hey playa, I have a couple loads using the same bullet that makes a 30-30 or .308 into a performance clone of a .357 magnum using plated bullets for about ¢25 a round, subsonic.

Can't decide if I should keep my 357/38 lever gun

How about an encore frame. Then you can have a stack of threaded barrels at low cost to shoot the 8000 rounds everyone wants to stock. You can shoot dozens of calibers stocking projectiles in .45, .40, .355 aka 9mm, .308, .284 aka 7mm, .224.

    44magnum heavy bullet loads?

I have about 80 lbs of ingots left that were cast from wheel weights at a shop that I worked at years ago. As long as you stay subsonic you are good. I have shot standard 230's from a suppressed .45 that was backyard quiet.
