Which deer rifle?

Looking to buy a new deer rifle for this year. Got about $500 to spend for rifle and scope.

Choices are Savage 11, Ruger American, or Remington 700 ADL. I'm leaning towards the Savage right now. Any advice? Probably going to be a .243. Possibly .30-06 or .308. Not looking for caliber debate.

With a $500 budget I'd buy the cheapest rifle and the best scope/rings I could with the money left over. When it comes to deer hunting, the optics are more important than the bullet launcher.
Stick to .30 caliber.

As much as I love my 700's in that price range a ruger American or the 111 in .30-06 and a Leupold VX-1 or Redfield should treat you well. My old cheap 111 with the crappy plastic stock and crappy detachable mag that wanted to constantly come out was one of the most accurate rifle s I have had. I regularly grouped .4-.6" at 100 with that Winchester Accutip 180, I sold it though because that detachable mag junk drove me crazy.

I purchased a Remmy 700 BDL 30-06 back in 75 and still have it..I paid 139.00 and hand picked it, in the walk in safe at JC Penny's..I still have it today, and will go to my son..It has put more deer on the ground than I can count...I don't shoot it any more, damn thing reminds me with pain, every time I try to shoot it..It is not for the faint of heart..It kicks like a Mule in overdrive..

Mine 700 .30-06 BDL was made in 79' , I'm dropping mine off to get threaded tomorrow for a suppressor, but a in line Quiet brake supposedly cuts recoil by 40% and those reduced recoil hornady rounds soften the kick alone where my 120lb fiancée will shoot it. Those rounds might let you revive your relationship with your old friend.

I took my Weatherby Mark V Ultra 308 fluted barrel, and had it threaded for a break several years ago..Now I am going to take it down to Brian and see what it is going to have to have done..I want to put a 51 tooth AAC mount on it, so I can use the 762 SDN-6 on it. The Treads are different than AAC's mount. I went looking for him at the range to ask, and he had already left..

Yep I'm dropping my rifle pictured above off with Brian tomorrow morning, I'm just having mine threaded standard 5/8-24 for my Silencerco Harvestor, supposedly that suppressor reduces recoil for around 40% they say it takes a 300 win mag to .243 recoil levels, that seems mighty optimistic, but none the less it will help and make hunting season a little more enjoyable.

When I had mine done, it greatly reduced the recoil dramatically. The only problem I have is, that I have another AAC 51 tooth break, that will work on my Scar and the AR-10 but not the Weatherby..What I am concerned about is that, the fluted barrel..He may have to find an adapter, one side female to mount to the barrel and the other side male to mount to the AAC..

able to tell you how mine worked out before hunting season is over, I'm expecting it to clear around Christmas someone else said closer to Thanksgiving. We shall see.

Nothing! As of now my primary hunting gun for the initial season will be my Ar .223. But let's be honest its not a major player for deer hunting.
