EXPENSIVE and hard to find for me at least, I would rather just run 300 blackout or 6.8 if I was dead set on a larger caliber in a AR-15 platform

I'm not interested in any kind of oddball calibers. Will definitely be some thing popular like .243, .308, or .30-06.
That's why I chose .30-06. Most versatile cartridge and way more common in other parts of the country than the other calibers mentioned. I can down load it for deer here and have the long range hard hitting rounds for elke and caribou and bear at extended ranges.
My model "xyz" will do under an inch at 100 years..yadayada......this is exactly why I said choose the cheapest rifle you can get. They are ALL more than accurate enough for GA deer hunting. Optics are much more important. You can't hit what you can't see.
I had the mate to a pair of 20 plus year old Savage 111s in .270 and think a total of $250 for both rifles were paid. These rifles have been used to slay many Georgia deer over the years. I gave mine back several years ago when I was not able to take the time to hunt as much any more. I think it has since been sold, but it was a great dependable and accurate rifle.
I run a Winchester model 70 black Shadow in .270 as my primary rifle. It's got a cheaper bushnell scope on it but, most places I hunt are under 100yrs and closer to 25-50. I love that rifle.
I also have a Winchester featherweight .308 that I've hunted with once. Being as its my nicest rifle, it doesn't see much action lol. It's def. my favorite though. I wish I could afford another. If easily make it my primary.

I'd get a Marlin 30/30. No gun has killed more deer. With leverevolution bullets you can knock em down at 200+ yards and still kill em in the brush. It's the perfect rifle for deer hunting.
My cousin is a gun SNOB he has GA Precision, Surgeon, I.A. , etc bolt guns in his personal collection + about 1/2 million dollars in rifles in his stories inventory......

I don't think I'd buy a new Rem 700 since Remmy was bought out...
I did sight in a coworker's Ruger American last summer. That was really nice rifle for the price. Very smooth action (especially for a three lug bolt) and a very reasonable out of the box trigger. Shot well too- if I were shopping, I'd definitely give the Ruger a close look.

If it helps any I'm really a die hard Remington 700 guy, but I'm considering picking up either a ruger American or a Ruger gun site in .308 so I can start hand loading some subsonics.
I am a shooter that occasionally hunts, there are hunters that occasionally shoot. Get the best rig that you can afford, and later your gear will perform up to your requirements, instead of later wanting to upgrade if you want to do some precision/ tactical work.
