The 30 ARX, the better 30 cal AR-15 option

Essentially its a 300blk, but instead of a 223 parent case, it uses the 6.5 grendel case. That means the supersonic options for it would be considerably faster than the 300blk and therefore faster than the 7.62x39.

Uses 6.5 grendel bolt and 6.5 grendel mags.

The 30 ARX is a cartridge designed for use in an AR-15, and it uses commercial 6.5 Grendel brass necked up to 30 cal.

The case length and chamber design of the 30 ARX is ideal and it allows the use of many of the favorite 30 cal. bullets magazine fed out of an AR-15 and backed by some real power!

Brass is easy to make with a simple neck up process. Neck it up, load it and go shoot! See the video below on making brass.


The 30 ARX has the case capacity to run the 125 gr. bullets easily in the 2500-2600 fps range and the 150 gr. bullets in the 2400-2500 fps range.

I have the 308, and yes I do prefer it in every way. That said, this round is closing in on 308 ballistics in a regular sized AR.

Ar-15 with 6.5 Grendel bolt and mag would just have to barrel swap to 30arx

Comparing intermediate cartridges to 308 will leave you confused every time.

i think i may have to check into this more. if i were to go with a .30 cal option.. this needs more mass production of ammo before i dive in.

There are many "improvements" in the wssm family also . The problem is with the bolt face being machined out too much which could lead a kaboom. .223 will kill deer and other varmints just fine.

as far as calibers/cartridges go, i'm already in 300, 556, x39, and 6.8.

i would need to see the specs of how this performs vs. 6.8 to be sold on it - ie, what does it offer that 6.8 does not? also, i am holding out on all new calibers until the popularity tipping point is reached where i can get practice ammo for less than $0.40/round and defensive/hunting loads for less than $.80/round.

I'm still waiting on this to happen with 6.8 and 300. I don't think 300 could get any more popular.

I think the issue with 300 blk is that 200 grain jacketed projectiles for subsonic loads are cost prohibitive. 6.8 to me offers no substantial improvement on 77 grain .556 loads. Ultimately the magazine well prohibits anything beyond intermediate caliber performance. .243 wssm is king of the hill strictly in performance, but there have already been documented failures.

I've never tried a deer with a 556 but I may this year.

6.8 and decent shot placement is game over for any whitetail.

I'm not disagreeing with your statement but I'll have to see for myself. plus, once you have the 6.8 setup...the difference in hunting round is not that material in terms of cost.
