Is there any reason not to have an SBR,either AK or AR, as a primary general purpose rifle? You could theoretically carry it with you every where you go in a discreet backpack....In an urban environment like Atlanta and suburbs the effective range of even 8" barreled SBR AK and AR guns is more than sufficient for personal defense (inside 300m)...

I guess I'm trying to convince myself that an SBR AK or AR is what I need in life. I can't see a reason to have a 16" version if cost is no option....of course cost is an option for me.

Just curious as to the board's thoughts .

I have been considering SBR'ing my Draco with an underfolder stock (after seeing the one @NWS has).
Its just 200.00 plus the Stock (mine has the underfolder trunion already).
It would be the perfect SBR for a Backpack and ammo is readily available.

PRT of my think is this: the mantra goes that the best gun is the gun you have with you. An SBR in my daily carry backpack could always be with me.

A 5.45 SBR, 8.5" barrel, would still be plenty good out to 200m...

Of course this is a sell one to get one kind of thing. If I had the cash I'd get both...

Due to the loss of power to rifle cartridges fired from short barrels, prehaps a pistol caliber sbr that takes you edc mags and ammo is the perfect solution. A 9mm at 250 yards still gets the point across just fine.

My next items will be a supressor and then a 9mm sbr.

Increased concussion and muzzle flash.

Decreased ammo velocity which can be an issue for ammo such as m855

Can't argue the first point...

5.45 is MUCH less velocity dependent to do its job. It would lose roughly 350-400 fpm going from a 16" to an 8.5" barrel but still tumbles on impact regardless of velocity.

I don't know much about 5.45. If I were going 8.5" I'd go 300BLK. That's my next build.

Btw mailing out the parts Monday.

I can't argue that...but 300 BO is just too damn expensive....i couldn't afford to feed it

Mine fits in my backpack nicely. Even with the suppressor on I can cram it in there, but it pushes the top up and looks a little conspicuous.

I know its impossible to answer the question of "If you could only have on gun...?" that comes up all the time, especially on gayer sites, but If I really had to bug out with just one gun, I think it would probably be this one.
