What a fucking day. One of the guys with the restoration company who is fixing our house decided that it would be a good idea to take a 2x4 and poke on the tarp that was holding about 4-500 gallons of water(that we called them and told them about 10 days ago after we got all of that rain) to try to get it to drain off. He ripped a hole in the tarp and about 300 gallons came pouring into my house. We had all of the stuff that we didn't bring to the apartment in the finished basement(that wasn't affected by the initial damage) which is directly below where he busted the tarp. All of our shit was soaked. Had to go get a 20ft U-Haul and move all of it out of there into a 10'x15' storage unit ourselves.

Oh, and to make things better, we finished the basement ourselves and didn't pull any permits or anything(allegedly) so insurance probably won't cover the damage to that room now.

Our house was built in 85 and it doesn't have central heating and air.
We started last week and I am ready for it to be over.
We got the vinyl siding torn off this week and got all of the new windows installed but they still need trimmed out.
The vinyl siding had wood siding underneath it and underneath every window the wood was wet and rotted out from window a/c units.
That's all been replaced on the outside and cleaned up.
The new siding is going on Monday next week.
Once this is all done we are starting on the inside and adding a/c.
Do you guys have any experience with mini split a/c units versus regular central air?

Get a central unit. It works well and gets a good warranty.
Mini splits are awesome, as long as you actually learn how to use the functions. Other than units hanging inside on the walls, I like em better, though I've never seen them used throughout an entire house, only on additions etc.
