Granted I know nothing about helicopters but if you look at airplanes, the Military has a history of doing the same thing, or trying to anyways. The C-130 was supposed to be phased out long ago, but now they're still making J-Models. They wanted to get rid of the A-10. The SR-71 was supposed to replace the U-2...the Blackbird is done but the Dragonlady is still flying...

Yep.....The platform that replaced the SR-71 was a non-air breather (satellite), then the geniuses found that you couldn't drive a satellite as fast to some hot points than a pilot in a TR-1 could get there.....so the U2/TR-1 remained. I wouldn't doubt that the TR-3 is already feilded and doing the secret work the SR-71 once did.

I'm sure the Army is finding out the Apache, with it's limited visibility from the cockpit and much larger silhouette is far from the scout aircraft the 58 was, but the Attach Battalion boys ain't about to admit to it. But the truth is since it became a Combat Arms Branch Army Aviation suffers from the same nonsense the Air Force has always suffered from.....High ranking commanders wedded to specific air frames/missions fighting for supremacy within branch.......nonsense.

A fun fact............Helicopters are and always will be much more fun to fly than airplanes, Period! Hovering in the ultimate phallic symbol!

I remember when the Ds first got fielded and worked for DVARTY with a pilot in the left seat and a FA 2nd LT in the right.
First Army Helo with a Glass Cockpit, enough power to fly fully loaded and gassed up......so Bad Ass for it's time and STILL a viable aircraft today. It's a shame it's gone from the inventory and sold off to foreign lands or boned in the boneyard.

Politicians and commissioned officers making policies that benefit them and no one else. Fuck the all.

I prefer to be in aircraft where the wings travel the same speed as the fuselage.

I have survived two rotary wing aircraft crashes...I don't plan on testing my luck by going for the trifecta

And the Army was supposed to get the C27 to replace the C23. It was a plane that could actually do a good mission. But the Air Force felt that was encroaching on their territory so they put up a big shit storm,got the aircraft for themselves and killed the program. All it did was fuck the guys on the ground that need transport and supplies but have to wait cause the Air Force pussies need crew rest at some resort destination enroute.

Some of things I don't get are why they didn't purchase nearly enough F-22s. The Air Force has retired the older F-15A/Bs and were doing the same for some higher hour C/Ds - but they weren't planning to buy replacements. Huh? Fortunately the new F-15X seems to be still moving forward, so we won't have to be completely dependent on the F-35. It was never designed for an air superiority role, as it is supposed to replace the F-16 for most air to ground roles. I still wonder how well it can do that.

Fortunately the new F-15X seems to be still moving forward, so we won't have to be completely dependent on the F-35. My last helicopter flight was 30 may 2001 (Bell 412). I miss it badly. But I chose quality of life over enjoyment of flying. I’ve also been to a lot of funerals over the years for lost friends. All but 2 were in helicopters. The other two were helicopter guys flying a j3 cub in the mountains.

Heres what I know about planes in the army. They’re loud AF. I have zero control over anything inside or outside of it. Shit is always leaking and the crew always looks like they’re fixing something. Chaff comes out I never know the real reason why.
