Got one of those 10 year multistage car seats (get that shit... It's expensive but you only need to buy another one ever).
When we got to the park he didn't want to walk so I had to carry him for a half mile or more. When it was time to go, he wanted down on the ground to play with sticks and rocks. He threw an absolute fit when I picked him up to finish the hike.
