Depends on the shop. Most of the time I am just poking around and eyeballing all the overpriced stuff that I probably already own. There are a few places where they let me dig through dusty, oil soaked boxed with unlabeled parts and give me 1996 pricing. That usually provide a wallet emptying experience.Why do I think I can just go into a gun shop and "just look around...".

True story - had a meeting in Memphis and drove. On the way back stopped at CMP store South. Looked at Garands, 1917's, and 1903's and came back empty-handed.
Minor miracle, I know. I must be getting old or something. Of course I already have a 1917, a couple 1903's, and, well, you get the picture.
