Ceramics aren’t as fragile as people like to make them out to be. Will they last 30 years? No. Will I last 30 years? Probably not lol. I have seen dudes drop their carriers and get the Macarena Shake plates, and fall on their back hard on a single point like a rock and crack a plate but surprisingly out of thousands of soldiers I worked with I saw that maybe 3 times in weird ass situations. Ceramics held up just fine for goonin’ around theatre

If ceramics are good enough for AC-130's, they're good enough for you!

BTW, they make the life of an aircraft electrician a real pain in the ass.

Seriously though if your desire is something that will last indefinitely and can be thrown off a building down to a first floor or just generally abused and still maintain its claimed properties you can probably only achieve that with steel.

ceramic is a better armor to wear, use, and sustain a hit in. But it does have a shelf life (theoretically) and you can mess it up with some bad shenanigans.

If you take care of your gear and aren’t sloppy With them they will last you a long time and serve you well, but you can get sloppy with steel and subject them to over-abuse and there’s not much that will change their original makeup.

Holy shit.... We agree on something.

I would wear my plates if I knew we were going to be in a prolonged firefight, i.e. holding a defensive position. For most assaults I preferred the mobility over security. The ability to shit and git is much more important in a guerilla style of combat.

I’ve been digging slick carriers with plates and chest rigs on top. Easier to do either quickly. That was the intention behind my micro rig. Roll it over a slick carrier with plates when I want or doff that shit and roll it stand alone. It’s not a bad way.
