Tons of markings on this guy throughout really. Looks to be mostly inspection marking tho I think
That's an X out barbecue paint. Nothing wrong with any of that though.
Sorry I don’t follow do you mean you think it’s been repainted? The guy I bought it from said he picked it up with all the cosmoline on it and had the original box etc
The collectors used to think that the horizontal stamped guns were East German DDR refurbs, but it was later proved to be a late Russian refurbish. Some stamp looks similar to an EG stamp. Some still believe this theory though.
Yes, At some point all Russian refurbishment went to that flat black paint rather than a reblue. There are many Russian SKS done like this.
Refurb, but in good condition. Stock was force matched. Old number was marked out. For $400 you did really good. I have an OG 1955 Russian SKS with OG stock, but it cost me more.
Paint overspray on the blade is from refurbishing. Check the gas tube, if there is rust, it will be there. Be careful, piston likes to fly out from the spring tension.

Does that mean anything in regards to the value? It also has these marks by the trigger, where your hand grips a 3 encircled by a square and then a P in a triangle

This is why SKS are so collectable. Like Mosins. All kinds of them, full of mystery and intrigue.
Checked the gas tube. No rust. Very slight small spot of greenish residue but that’s it. Overall very clean.

I got one like yours about ten years ago for $125. I did not want to pay that but I did. 
Asked all kind of questions about it on the forums. Mine is blued, but the horizontal restamped numbers are are very unusual.
