All the other articles I found said that he survived but the only thing I found said that someone suffered a cut on the hand so it doesn't sound like he got ahold of anybody.

So, open question. If you witness 30 people all jumping around, kicking, throwing rocks, and beating down someone who is already on the ground and not able to defend themselves and you're armed, how do you handle this situation? I feel like blasting straight into the mob would be the answer, they're all guilty. And you're saving someone's life, just like an attempted murder or rape. But I'm sure the law isn't going to see it that way?

This is one of those situations where wasting a round of birdshot into the air might not be an entirely BAD idea...

I'm not willing to stand around and watch a guy get beat to death. Calling the cops won't save him. If I jump in, that will get ME killed. So I guess the answer is yes? I'd want someone to do the same thing for me, but I know that's highly unlikely.

I guess pick your best backstop and let off a rifle round (because I DO keep a rifle-caliber pistol as an EDC).
Most people will stop and turn with THAT kind of noise.
Once you got their attention, ask who wants the next one...

I may actually have to sit down and figure out a career path bc the one I'm on isn't good for my physical or mental health.

Would have to analyze your surroundings quick. Have you seen the Spetnaz video where the guy discharges his pistol straight down at his feet for crowd control? I can see that on dirt but I don't want to try it on pavement. And I'm not sure I'd think to even do that...

See, I’ve already got these scenarios played out in my head - just in case they happen - so that I don’t have to stop and ponder on the spot.
I already thought about the dirt vs pavement issue.
This did come up the time I shot a deer in the middle of the road. Didn’t want to drag a kicking, wounded animal (deer vs car) off the road, but also didn’t want a ricochet. Went for the high angle with bushes and trees in the ricochet area, and got lucky.
