Whattttt???? That's crazy!
It has been a few years, and my memories are a bit fuzzy from that time. You have to file custody paperwork for your kids, and, IIRC, judge has 3 choices, grant you full custody, or conditional custody, with mandatory reporting, including $$$ spent on kids, or give kids to a 3rd party, like grandparents or foster care.And have a will. Especially if you have kids. In GA kids do not automatically go to the surviving parent. Probabate court decides if they do. And court can mandate reports about kids. Surprised the crap out of me too.
I was blessed that God moved judge to pick the 1st option.
Have a will, so the court would know what deceased parent wanted for the kids.
