Bringing back the classics...Damn that’s a old one
Because when mixing plastics, they mix in Carbon Black, which creates long carbon chains and creates a lot of strength in the polymer. But in translucent or clear plastics there’s little or no Carbon Black. So over time these types of plastic/polymer are just plain weaker. Granted, these Lancers have steel fees lips, so they’ll hold up pretty well overall, but I’d expect in a dozen years or so to start seeing spider cracks at the stress points where plastic meets steel, and at the floor plate.
Solid color plastics, and especially black, will always hold up better. I’d say a Lancer in black would be better than a Magpul, but not necessarily better than a GI mag. YMMV.
It probably costs a lot more than the market would be willing to support.I did not know that. Usually the transparent plastics don't age because companies go cheap and don't add UV inhibitors like Tinuvin. I would think mag manufacturers would. Also, polymer chains can be formed using different crosslinks to achieve the same strength. The window you look out of in an airplane is extremely strong, and has to pass mil-specs for strength, deformation, resistance to chemicals and cracking.
Those airplane windows don’t have stress concentration factors on them in the same way that a magazine does.I did not know that.
