This topic is the reason the Brits always brought in people from other parts of the Empire to serve as Colonial Police forces (Hindus as Colonial cops in South Africa, Gurkhas in other parts of Africa, etc.) It's easier to get cops to ruthlessly enforce unpopular laws if they don't see the people being rousted as related to them. That may be harder to achieve than a lot of folks here think, especially in rural America.Oh, there are definitely LEO at all levels who will "follow orders" up to & including gun confiscation. The big question is no one (on either side) know how many will cooperate with the state & how many want. We may get some insight into that.
