What's the deal with Bakelite furniture? I never really see anybody running any Bakelite besides grips and mags.
Used to be some nice Bulgarian Bakelite handguards and stuff out there. They were for milled receivers but often fit stamped well enough. I had a set on a 107FR
Bakelite surplus is not widely available.
Bulgarians are the only ones to use them on the large scale. Soviets used wood and polymer.

Same... I kind of always wanted an RPK and I got a kit from Numrich because they were stupid cheap at the time (less than $200 delivered). I sat on the kit for a few years until @Jds556762 started the v1.0 thread. The thread got me thinking about this kit I had laying around, so I decided to join the journey. Fast forward a few months later and I had an RPK that was so smooth and soft shooting. The RPK is always a head turner and the finned barrel has a lot of retro cool. I could shoot an RPK like the one(s) I have for days.
Couple months ago I dug out a WASR 10/63 I had in storage and it's so "crunchy" compared to the M72. Looks like some drunk hammered it together in a woodshed while the RPKs really have that factory fit and finish to them.
Looking to buy a good AK 74 that I will shoot and not be a Safe Queen any Suggestions on what to look for?
