It seems like most folks are buying the hell out of stuff.

At least that's what I've noticed. Have we finally had enough scares that people have begun to be able to see what November holds?

I'm fairly certain that everyone on this forum knows how it'll go in November when Hillary is elected. Pending legislation for an AWBII type ban or not, shit will hot the fan. I can't remember another election when firearms rights, or the willingness to eliminate them has come up as often as it has on this cycle...not even close.

What scenario do you see playing out?

I don't expect to see anything but the paint on the ammo shelves by October. No more bullets in stores (unless you target shoot with a.375 H&H or a .32 ACP), magazines that hold more than 10 rounds will disappear from every corner of retail, and you won't be able to find a semi-auto rifle for sale at anything like today's prices.

I have thought about selling it all this go around and getting deeper into wood and metal working.

Yeah, there's no way I could do that. Guns aren't a hobby for me, they're in my DNA.

I'm not really sure what to expect. If Hillary getS in office I expect an AWB within 90 days. Right now I'm torn between doing maintenance and minor upgrades on my vehicles vs buying 5.45 ammo and 9mm reloading supplies.

I'd like 500 rounds of Hornady 5.45 stocked up.

6-8 pounds of powder, 10k primers, 10k projectiles.
I'm only about half way on all measures.

Oh and a stripped lower and BCG...just in case.

Yeah, I'm pretty well set except for a couple extra bcg's. Probably get one tomorrow. I really don't expect an unprovoked AWB, but any type of shooting incident will stoke the fire. I think it'll remain a back burner issue for a while, then the inevitable will happen and we're fucked.

I dunno...with her that's kinda low hanging fruit.

My real fear is another Sandy hook and NFA items get out in the cross hairs

Here's an excerpt on terrorism by James Shapiro. It's relevance to violence perpetrated with firearms is so fucking perfect. I'll link the article interview as well.

ZWERDLING: So how optimistic are you - or how worried - that things will...

SHAPIRO: I can be optimistic that Western European authorities can get their acts together enough to reduce the problem of terrorism to a level which is manageable, even if it still is tragic from time to time.

You know, we have accepted all sorts of problems like that - like crime, like traffic deaths - which are tragic. But we work to reduce them. And we make great strides, but we accept that we never eliminate them.

Terrorism is that kind of problem. It's been with us for hundreds of years and it will probably be with us for hundreds years - of years more. I guess what I'm less optimistic about is that we will find a way to get the societies to respond in a way which is reasonable.

And instead, we will constantly be introducing new surveillance, new security measures, new restrictions on civil liberties intended to reduce this problem to zero when that's really just not possible.

Yeah, I'm trying to build the ARs I've been wanting and then I'll stock up on mags and ammo. After that I may build a few cheap rifles to sell just in case there is a panic buy.

I think nothing is going to change. Panic will set in and drive up prices on ammo, mags and weapons, the usual.
I am not purchasing anything, I am out of room with 3 gun safes, (2 are just ammo and mags)
I have taken over my sons closet for more ammo storage. I'm done, its summer time to sunbathe and sail
fuck the panic

Where are you noticing that "people are buying the hell out of stuff"? I only ask as I'm not seeing this trend; aside from .22 pricing, I'm not seeing much that isn't available or anything to lead me to believe people are "buying the hell out of" anything in particular. Just curious

The frequency with which guns and ammo sellout online, lines at retail stores, and sales dollar numbers/NICS checks numbers from friends that work at large gun shops.

Anywhere in particular? Again, I'm not seeing this myself...... guess I could find panic if I looked hard enough.

There was a line at the Kroger check-out today, but I didn't take that as a sign that there was a meat or dairy panic looming ..... are you sure you aren't reading a bit too far into this?

?
All throughout Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, Nevada, South Dakota, Montana, Illinois, Colorado, Idaho, Minnesota,Wisconsin, and North Dakota. Those are states that they have access to firearms purchase data through a chain of very large gun shops. Firearms sales, ammo sales, and NICS checks are waaay up at those particular stores. Yeah, it's not the southeast, but I think it's pretty representative.
This is pretty hard data related to $$$ of gun, and gun related sales and background checks. The guys I talk to are friends from when I worked for this company, and they are corporate line leaders (purchase for the stores), and specialty shop managers.

The sporting goods stores to which I am referring are all among the biggest if not the biggest by volume in their respective states, with many of the states having more than one location. That's a pretty fair representation of overall activity.

I agree that firearm purchases and NFA filings have increased significantly, but I guess I'm at a loss when we start tossing around the terminology that "people are buying the hell out of stuff".

Regardless of what your friends in other states elude to, I've yet to see any major scarcity or "panic" related lack of firearms, ammo or accessories thus far. I'm sure there is some panic to be had, somewhere, but I'm just not seeing it.

Just my 0.02 .... but I'm sure if you promote panic hard enough, it will come to fruition ;)

I didn't say there was any scarcity or panic, simply a significant uptick in purchases. Fuck man, are you just looking to create friction where there isn't any?

The facts are, that there is an increasing amount of purchasing going on ahead of the election. I don't care where you are in the US, it's fairly evident. I talk to guys that buy for a huge line of gun shops, and they've indicated that sales volume is increasing at a rapid rate. That's pretty much all I was passing along....a bit of shift from pre-2008 when people just kind of sat on their collective hands a bit more.
If you'd like to counter that, maybe use some english words, rather than suppositions.

Not a big deal man, I guess I was more wondering what online places you had seeing selling out of guns and ammo. Sorry for any confusion
