I wish they'd leave the reference to European legislation out. We don't need to automatically create pushback against concealed carry (since most of the EU doesn't allow it), as well as a host of other EU specific laws.

Maybe I'm too much the pessimist, but the timing seems like lip service. If they had a clear path to passage, it seems like they'd have some Senator nods publicly already.

I thought the HPA was going to make suppressors classes like regular guns. The average person can make a non -NFA gun if they are using it for personal use and not to sell.

Yes if HPA becomes law, silencers will move from Title 2 to Title 1 (your reg firearms) weapons.

Yes a non licensee can make a firearm for personal use.

I was thinking from a sales/business perspective on what I should do. 80% cans? Just sell baffles maybe?

Yeah, HOR votes and it'll prob be ok, the Senate will require 60 votes. Last time it had 58-59...so we'll see.
Shit, that's better than I expected it to do. I think it's gonna be an uphill battle all the way. Thanks Hollywood....

I'm no lawyer, but if they are taken off of the registry and treated like firearms, then they should be legal to make at home, as long as you aren't making them to sell.

this would be my thought as well. they are already legal to make you just still have to register them so if that went away shouldnt you be able to make as many as you'd like? would be interesting to see what would happen. though this same message could be said for all of the components. May go ahead and invest in parts and wait

I would love to see the HPA pass.

I really believe you'd see "silencers" in blister packs for $30 right next to the cheap Bushnell scopes. I can see a super light, 100% plastic can that is literally disposable. Once it's dirty or gets a little too hot, you just trash it and get another one.

I'm sure there's still a market for all metal (i.e. durable) cans, but I could see the cheap alternative becoming very popular. Especially for the weekend plinker that just wants something on the end of their 10/22.

I saw cans for sale at a gun shop in Aix en Provence France in 2003ish. They had a selection just like you described, but aluminum. Most were 40-60 euros ($55-75 at the time) and were available on the shelf next to hearing protection.
