I have more than I will ever use. Since I don't really use it for anything more than sighting in a new rifle it barely gets used. My lever actions and single action revolver don't need sighting in so I will probably never use any of it.

Doesn't it get ridiculous at some point though?

Theoretically, yes. But I'm not there yet, so can't say for sure.

Ammo, stored correctly, should last for several decades at least. I can't think of many things that have gone down in price in that time frame (excluding buggy whips and telegrams). Consider it an investment. And as a plus, it's more useful than a savings account.

When you have to think about it...
That's probably about right. I'm sure I have waaay less than some guys on here, NWS would laugh at what I thought was a "lot" for sure, but it's getting close to where I'm less enthused about buying it.

I think a minimum of at least 2-3k per gun is a good goal. Anything over that is just a smart idea.

Ideally I'd like to be able to survive a long term ammo drought like we're seeing in reasonably priced rimfire now. 2-3k/per caliber won't get me there.

I used to own one rifle, one handgun, one shotgun, and a box or two for each. Seems crazy to me now that that's all I had.

lol, yeah when I first got married I had a 10/22, maybe 200 rounds and a Ruger P89 with maybe 150 rounds. That seemed like a lot at the time.

I wish I could have 10k of each caliber I own...but right now it's a matter of balancing preparedness with upcoming school bills.

How many calibers do you currently stock?

Two....some of the cheapest but effective I can. 9mm and 5.45x39. Its amazing that I can buy 5.45 cheaper than most 9mm. Right now my minimum acceptable stock is allegedly 1k of defensive stuff and 2k Fmj. I do have a press now which should bring my target ammo cost down to $6/50.
