Two....some of the cheapest but effective I can. 9mm and 5.45x39. Its amazing that I can buy 5.45 cheaper than most 9mm. Right now my minimum acceptable stock is allegedly 1k of defensive stuff and 2k Fmj. I do have a press now which should bring my target ammo cost down to $6/50.
That's awesome. I've whittled it down to 5.

I've been resisting the urge to add a heavy barrel .243 to the mix.

Dang...I change my answer to 3. I have a 22 but less than 200 rounds for it. I would like to have 2k.

I would eventually like to add a bolt gun in either 30-06 or possibly .243 or .270

Yeah, I haven't hunted a whole lot in the last few years but my dad has been asking me to go with him quite a lot. He won't be around forever, so I just need to carve out some time and do it. That means I'm going to need a 300 yard gun with more punch than a .223 though. We'll be headed to western Nebraska this year to hunt antelope, mulies, and some kind of chinese ungulate that escaped from a defunct game farm. A 22 inch hb .243 should be ok, I might go with the 6.5 Creedmoor though.

lol, that's about where I started whittling...almost exactly 5 years ago. I did have a 444 Marlin, 357 sig, 223 ackley improved, and no 300 wby or 30 carbine.

Most of what I have now has been passed down. Can't really downsize much more.

I guess I could dump the 17 hmr. Everything else is a passed down caliber.

Ammo lasts long time if in controlled climate like food. I moved here in 1982. Still have 12 gauge shells in my safe from then.
