It's not just memory. Reagan wasn't great on 2A issues & many other things, but he was a godsend given the direction Carter had headed the country. Most of you guys are too young to remember 15% 30 yr mortgages, 4+% inflation & 8+% unemployment. By the end of the Carter administration, much if the world was writing America off as headed to 3rd world status economically.
And most Republicans were no better. Hell, Nixon enacted wage & price controls. Though far from perfect, Reagan changed the direction the country was going.

I know. Definitely better than the alternative but he became something different after the assassination attempt. I'm quite sure ole Bushy was pulling them strings.

Meh! I don't know if anyone was pulling strings. I have no illusions about Reagan. He was always a politician. He swapped gun rights for other shit he wanted, just like any politician always will. Just the best choice at the time, give the candidates. Much like Trump over Hillary.
