I guess I'm going to hunt a water heater and a plumber today.
That barrel has been stripped for some reason. Bolt on retainer and gas block. Maybe rebarreled or something.
Water heaters can be tough to bring down... I suggest 7.62x54. They’re built like..... TANKS!

Get a plumber. They'll get you the water heater. Much better option than Lowes, HomeDespot, etc.
I may have info on the plumber I used (a few years ago), but it'll be tonight before I can find it.
