Nope. The Woodsman's Pal. made in America since 1941. Standard issue by the US Army in WW2. Actually a pretty useful tool.

If your grandfather was on Iwo Jima in the USMC, no. Not issued to Marines. My dad fought on Peleliu, Iwo, Okinawa & took surrender of Japanese troops in China after the war. If your grandfather was in the army units that came to Iwo after the assault when airfields were being built, then yes it could.
