CUDRULN had a nice AR39 he built. Had it at the M&G and took out a little jar of Tannerite at 100 yes with open sights.
Shhh, don't let the cat out of the bag, the more that think they aren't reliable = more availability for me at lower cost when I build my next one :)

Is there such a thing as an aperture sight for ak? They are so much easier for me to shoot than ak style.

It is, but if you add a little to a spray bottle filled with Mobil 1, it makes it spray better.

I believe it was @Balthaz that turned me on to this little trick

Yes this is what I do, I use a spray bottle and put 20% WD and 80% Synthetic Oil (Most any oil of your choice will work too).
I use the WD40 as the carrier to get the oil on the firearm.
After you spray the firearm the WD40 Dries up and leaves the Oil on the gun.
Been doing this for 25 plus years.

It's been working like a charm for me ever since. That was what, about 3 years ago or so? I think you gave me that little nugget of knowledge when we traded guns up around your place.

2 quarts synthetic motor oil
1 quart automatic transmission fluid. Brand and spec don't matter.
1 bottle of original STP. The blue bottle.
1 7 oz. jar of Hoppe's #9

Lubed everything from single-action revolvers to belt fed MG's with this. Great stuff and slicker n' snot on a doorknob.

I will have to try this!

Do you use it to clean too or is it strictly a lube?

You can clean with it, since it has ATF in it, but here's what I mix up for dedicated cleaner:

1 part Dexron II, IIe or III ATF
1 part kerosene, deodorized K1
1 part Aliphatic Mineral Spirits (odorless mineral spirits, Stoddard Solvent, Varsol)
1 part Acetone
Optional: up to 1lb Lanolin Anhydrous, USP, per gallon. Ok to substitute Lanolin, Modified, Topical Lubricant

I don't use the lanolin.

There are several companies that make an aperture replacement sight for the AK. Just Google it and you'll come up with a selection.

Do they stay pretty well "on" given the play in the dust cover? I think the increased sight radius goes a long way.

That's like Ed's Red solvent. It's a damn good penetrating oil, too.

Most of the aperture sights just replace the standard rear, so no extra sight radius.

You could get something like a Texas Dogleg mount with a BUIS.
