I thought you just threw in some dirty motor oil once a year, after you change the oil in the old Mercedes.
Hell i slap it in the dishwasher once a year and then just spit on it once dry. Good for another thousand rounds or so.

Oh boy...
Haha dont worry I wont show up talking any shit about ARs! I love them both so very much.

Honestly, if I could have a 30 cal AR that was as cheap to feed as 223/556/762x39 id be freaking golden. My life would be complete!

Maybe one day 300 blackout will be $25 cents a round!

You COULD get a 7.62x39 upper for your AR. Not all of them have problems. Lol

Yeah ill wait until they have more proven systems running. Ive seen a few first hand and only one ran well. It was also like $2K and only running Fiocchi brass cased ammo.

The first upper I ever put together was a x39, using a barrel and bolt from AR Performance. I sold it to a friend years ago. I threw it on our m16 lower last week and it ran through a mag like a scalded dog.

In many of the Third World countries I was at in the Corps, when the locals bothered to clean and lube their AK's, they usually used diesel fuel to clean and left some on the gun for lube. Another lube I've seen them use was to pull the dipstick out of a truck and use the oil off of that.

Interesting, ive heard about the car grease that most people prefer. Ive also heard something about oil for rotating parts and grease for friction parts or something like that. I typically oil mine but then again dont shoot a ton so maybe thats why it works fine for me.

I like the "grease for sliding parts, oil for rotating parts" mantra, but don't think it's all that important. I've lubed semi-auto handguns with all grease and I've done them with all oil. Never had a problem either way. The most important thing is that you LUBE the moving parts.

I used to be a big proponent of Slip 2k EWL on everything I owned, now I just use Mobil 1 synthetic :)

Yeah I feel ya. I also have never really had gun issues with decents guns. Ive had cheaper ARs and handguns that had issues no matter what and now I stick to mostly reputable guns that so far have run fine with or without any kind of lube haha.

My mustang has similar taste lol
The epitome of dual purpose; do an oil change & lube your guns at the same time, win-win ;)

ETA: A member here suggested adding a bit of WD-40 to the mix, it works wonders!

I'll have to find the article but apparently it stated that WD40 is shitty for firearms.

It is, but if you add a little to a spray bottle filled with Mobil 1, it makes it spray better.

I believe it was @Balthaz that turned me on to this little trick

CUDRULN had a nice AR39 he built. Had it at the M&G and took out a little jar of Tannerite at 100 yes with open sights.
