    Steel target question

they're hung with rubber straps over iron bars. 8" and 12" plates and a man size silhouette. they are AR500 steel targets. the big one is 1/2". They are 3/8" thick. they are on private land surrounded by thick woods on 3 sides. the material to the right of my son is just an old drip pan we were...

    My favorite gun store ...

I think the first handgun I ever bought was from a place a Provo called Vanwagnons I believe. The owner was such a jerk it made going there kind of fun. Been to Gunnies a lot also.

The most effective hardware for home defense

so you're the last guy in the country with a waterbed. :) is "cylinder bore" essentially wide open? I've got a 590 ready if the circumstances permit. Other wise a P229/40 with weapon light upstairs and a G21 with a weapon light downstairs. often something on my hip or in my pocket as well if...

    Steel target question

How close is too close to shoot steel? Does it depend on caliber or bullet composition?

    AK co-witness

noticed I posted a couple of photos with my SN clearly readable. probably no big deal but who knows what some of you crazies would do with that delicate info. ;) (thanks Skip)

    AK co-witness

I like it. the others I looked at were very tall. I looked in to the railed dust cover but didn't want to do any drilling to make it stable enough for an optic. but I don't know if a railed dust cover could even mount an optic that low unless the after market ones are lower than stock somehow...

    AK co-witness

I did notice it was kind of messy in my kitchen when I opened it but when I use it beyond a few feet outdoors its a clean circle. I'm not sure why there would be a difference at very close range and then longer but there seems to be. I like how the dot teaches you to shoot with both eyes open...

    AK co-witness

last 4 shots during the 100yd sight in were pretty good. 3 right at 2 o'clock an inch from center and a flyer about 1" right. ran out of ammo. might give it another click left and down but I may just leave it. seems pretty good to me. 4 moa dot covers the entire bullseye at 100 yds anyway...

    AK co-witness

It's a little less than lower third but still workable. Can remove dust cover w/o removing optic but it's not difficult to remove anyway. Hopefully it holds zero. I didn't like any of the gas tube options. That thing gets crazy hot plus I remove the tube for cleaning and didn't want to get...

A new rifle may be in my future

didn't know there was a 5.56 Saiga but it wouldn't surprise me. the AK74 variants I've fired were loads of fun also but they were all 5.45x39. that ammo is even cheaper than 7.62x39. much lighter recoil. AR type accuracy and range (depending on who you ask). reasonably cheap.

A new rifle may be in my future

mini's are fun and it seems SRC has made enough changes to get their accuracy dialed in pretty good as well. BGS still has the 14 tactical (with the collapsible stock and railed fore end) for less than $700 shipped if you pay cash. i like the 30 tactical a little more but they're both a lot of...

    Ammunition storage questions

Ammunition storage questions I have a small safe that I keep my firearms in but there's not room in there for much ammo. I've got one of those stack on convertible gun cabinets that I was going to put it in. most of it just in the factory boxes or cases on the shelves. i was wondering though...

    Ammunition storage questions

how do you store ammunition long term? ammo cans? 5gal plastic buckets? open on a shelf? desiccant? considerations for steel? how long will it keep? thx.

    Remington yellow box

they are that. spent the last couple hours teaching my 11yr old son how to field strip, clean, and reassemble my SGL21. it's strange how proud watching him bang on the dust cover and function check makes me. you'd think he just scored a touchdown or something. and I'd be all over those...

    Remington yellow box

I've never bought it online but in my local stores, there's almost no price advantage to buying the big Remington bulk boxes. if I'm going to buy that much ammo at once, there had better be a cost advantage. I have shot I before though. it cycled perfectly and didn't seem any dirtier than...

    Thinking about an AR

thx. I like the old school A2 butt stock on your Stag. Do you know if the twist rate is important or not for the average civilian AR shooter? do you need a tighter twist to shoot the heavier bullets or is the difference minor enough that most would never notice?
