What's the consensus on these things? Always kinda wanted to play with one but never picked on up.

Being offered one in trade, like new blah blah blah with night sites.

If I don't like it how hard will it be to do get 600 bucks out of it?

If it is the double stack they are kinda bulky gripped. Don't fit small hands very well. Don't know much about reliability buddy had one and I didn't care for the feel.

Chunky and tougher to trade off than ice to an Eskimo. You'd better like it if you trade into it. Paras are slow movers.

The double stack Paras and Rock Islands are hit and miss for reliable feeding. The mags are most often the culprit, but they can be irritating to sort out. Also, when you're looking at parts/accessories for for 1911s it's common to see a "fits all but Para Ordinance" disclaimer.

Hard pass...those double stack Para's are POS's. You'd have a hard time getting rid of it period, much less for $600.

I'm leery of PO's when it comes to reliability. Many 1911 gunsmiths won't work on them and I don't blame them. When you charge a set price per job, and an out-of-spec gun ends up taking 3x longer than it should to work on, cuts into your profits.

With that being said, before PO came out with the Warthog they had the plain version, the P10. I ordered a stainless one, hand-checkered it, installed tritium sights, ambi-safety, steel MSH, all new ignition parts, got rid of the Series 80 stuff. When I was all done, it looked identical to the later incarnation they came out with; the Warthog.

Mine was perfectly reliable and one of the most accurate handguns I've ever owned. Scary accurate at 25" yards, especially with the short sight radius. I've owned several 5" 1911's that didn't shoot near as tight.

Traded it to a buddy for something I wanted/needed more. Can't even remember what it was anymore. He carried it for several years as his regular CCW.
