@Jeddak @Rabbit2047 or whoever. Thoughts on a romak 991? Someone randomly messaged me on another sight asking if I’d trade a trijicon scope for

Good rifle, like a sar1 but most were not threaded.
probably gouged out the magwell if it was “poorly converted to double stack“

0000 steel wool and oil?

Yep, I use a haze and plastic restorer too that will help remove scratches and haziness sometimes if it's really bad. I didn't need to on these though, they were just dirty from being stored for so long. I just lightly rubbed them down with a microfiber and oil then buffed it lightly with steel wool, then buffed it again with a microfiber for a little while. Then buff it with a dry microfiber really well to remove any excess oil.

That rifle came into the country with a thumbhole stock and single stack cut magwell with a single stack bolt. The end of the barrel had a nut welded over it and some rifles had threads under the nut but most did not (but it can easily be threaded). The biggest concern is some of the receivers have been cut so you cannot add a pistol grip, and the admitted screwed up magwell. If you could get your hands on it to inspect it you could find out if it's a good trade or not.

Not possible to get hands on. Can probably get photos in sure but I’m curious how “bad” can the mag well be.

If only I had money, I'd be willing to do the drive so I could officially join KK!

If it still has the original stock on it, get him to take a pic with the stock removed. The anti-pistol grip cut on the receiver is easily to ID. That may or may not be an issue to you. I actually like the type of thumbhole stock the ROMAK 991 came with, so if it had the OEM thumbhole I would be OK with it.. That admitted bad magwell is the big issue to me. Average magwell work to allow double stack mags can suffer reliability issues because the combo of the magwell work and the single stack bolt. Bad magwell plus single stack bolt can be a hell on reliability. But with what you have in the scope, you could demill the ROMAK, part it out and still make money...so maybe a win no matter if it works or not.

The cuts to open up the magwell can be cleaned up.

Uncoverted models are selling for $700 right now. So it's not an unfair trade.
